Unfortunately, this is how many business owners and entrepreneurs start out on their journey.

Don't Forget Your Family
Often as business owners we can become so focused on our work, clients and building our “million dollar” business, we forget the reason WHY we’re doing it in the first place – to provide for our family!
Far too often, we hear how out of balance small business owners feel and they share how it’s taking a toll on their family (and marriage).
Listen as Jim and Laurie share a few nuggets to help you stay aligned to your WHY.
Business vs Family
Most business owners struggle to increase their bottom line AND find time for family. It seems one always suffers.
But our clients are having record success in revenue AND spending more time with family than ever!! 🙀
This is possible for you too! 💫
Listen as Jim and Laurie share 3 tips of what their clients are doing that’s creating this success!
Bad News
How do you handle disappointment?
As a married couple who work together, it can be difficult to process disappointment in business, because both of you are going through it at the same time.
Take a listen as Jim and Laurie share a real and raw story of a recent disappointment in their business and what they learned.
And how it made them stronger!
Dealing with Change
How do you manage change?
With a new season and busier schedules, sometimes we can resist the changes this brings and get cranky with the people around us.
Listen as Jim and Laurie provide tips on “what NOT” to do when this happens! 🤪
Adult Children
STOP telling your adult children what to do!
You think you are helping them. They think you are telling them they are doing it wrong. They will then get defensive and disengage from you.
Take a listen as Jim and Laurie share tips that helped them create amazing relationships with their grown children!
It’s possible for you too!
Men can learn to be vulnerable too!
When Jim leaned in and learned how to be vulnerable, their relationship went from good to great!
Listen to hear how he started and what Laurie did to support him.
Do you focus on your weaknesses and the weaknesses of your spouse, kids and colleagues?
Or do you focus on the strengths?
Remember, what we focus on grows!
Have you ever thought to ask your partner to be your work out accountability partner?
We all want to be healthy and strong! Why not help each other achieve your health goals!
First step is to ask you partner for help.
Second step is to do it together!
It doesn’t have to be hard.
Use the equipment you already have. Or go for a walk.
Move your body TOGETHER! 💫
We shouldn’t be married right now!
WOW – that is a strong statement, but it’s true.
If we had listened to the statistics – we would have gotten divorced.
When our three-year old daughter, was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) our Oncologist told us that 80% of couples with a child living with a life threatening illness end in divorce!
When Laurie heard that statistic – she believed it to be true and she went home and packed Jim’s bag.
Thankfully, Jim had a different belief.
He believed their marriage could get through anything!
27 years later their life is full of abundance (and grand-babies) that they never imagined during those dark and scary days.
If you are going through something challenging right now, ask yourself what do you NEED to believe in order to get through it.
And then don’t be afraid to lean on your partner’s belief if you have to! You never know what is on the other side of it!
Remember – You CAN get through it TOGETHER!
You just have to believe it!
Having fun! When you allow fun into your relationship and business, everything changes!
Listen as Jim and Laurie share how injecting FUN into their corporate retreat allowed for more creativity and better discussions on hard topics (ie: money!)
The shift has been amazing, and we encourage you to try it and inject fun into your relationship today!
How do you take time away from your business?
THIS was a bit of a hot topic 🙈 in the Shopland house this morning. There was some resistance to take time away from our business from one of us. 🫣
Listen as Jim and Laurie share the behind the scenes of a heated conversation that helped them understand each other on a topic that is really important to ALL business owners and entrepreneurs.
⭐️Nugget: listen to understand your partner, rather than to respond and react.
Celebrating 31 years! 💫
What is the secret to a happy marriage? Listen as Jim & Laurie give their most important tip for creating a thriving marriage of 31 years.
Let us know what you have found to be successful in creating a happy marriage.
How do you manage change?
Change is inevitable! Do you try to change how your partner deals with it? Do you think they should react the same way you do?
Listen as Jim and Laurie dealt with change this past week and how they managed it.
We’d love to hear how you manage change and how you support your spouse when they process it too.
How do you manage the emotional highs and lows of your relationship?
Have a listen as Jim and Laurie share what works and what DOES NOT work for them.
HINT –
Try asking your partner “how can I support you?” rather than “what’s wrong?”.
Share with your partner and let us know how it goes!
Marriage is NOT 50/50! 😳
Listen as Jim and Laurie share their thoughts on how the belief that marriages should be 50/50 is creating false expectations and resentment.
If this resonates with you and you’d like to learn more, reach out!
We work with couples who want to take their marriage from good to great! 💫
Do you recognize when your partner (or colleague) is stressed?
Listen as Jim and Laurie share a tip they’ve implemented to support one another during these times. Since taking the DISC Behavioural Assessment they are both better equipped to identify when the other person is feeling stressed.
Laurie gets disorganized (like PigPen) and Jim watches Hogan’s Heros! 🤪
Instead of trying to change the other person’s behaviour, they ask the question:
How can I support you right now?
This has been incredibly beneficial at work AND at home!
Try it with your partner and see how it will help them feel supported instead of adding to their stress.
Want to learn more about DISC? Jim is happy to chat with you more about it.

How do you create space at work and at home?
We often get so busy with our to-do lists that we never come up for air!
Listen as Jim and Laurie share tips on how to create space to feel successful at work and at home!
How do you celebrate?
Or do you even celebrate at all?
Listen as Jim and Laurie share their early struggles with celebrating wins in their business and life.
They were always looking for ‘the other shoe to drop’. But we know that taking time to acknowledge what is working, helps create more of it!
Share this with someone to help you celebrate your wins!
